ALIA Institute

Hi everyone,

The privacy settings here on the ALIA network have just been updated. The front page will still be visible to the public, but to view any of the other pages on the site you will now need to be a member of the network.

We've made this change to protect the privacy of our members and create a more protected space for discussions. Membership is still open to anyone who wants to join the network.

Regards,
Ryan Watson

I very much appreciate you having taken this step, thereby protecting this space for open conversation!

Thanks,
Marg Sanders
I'm not crazy about this move. I do understand the need to protect privacy, and to limit public visibility of individuals' profile information. And I can see the need to have some discussions be private or restricted - groups within the site work well for this. But to close off discussion from being visible and linkable on the web is to cut yourself off from the web's greatest strength and potential, and from the Great Conversation. To write/post a message should of course require joining/signing up with the site. But to cut off reading... that means I can't share something that I feel is truly worthwhile with someone else.

I realize that building Alia connected community presence is the beginning of an ongoing experiment, so I have faith that this move is not set in stone. And living in a fishbowl could carry some issues, of course. But that's more and more our world, and maybe there's even some necessity to that.

Cheers,
Mark
Please note that we've changed the privacy setting of this network back to its original state. All pages are now publicly viewable, with the exception of private groups. Membership is still required to post entries or comments.
