In Oct or Nov of this year I participated in the Art of Hosting in Duncan BC Canada.
Chris Corrigan was one of the hosts at this event. I attending a day session in September with Meg Wheatley in Victoria at Royal Roads University and learned of the upcoming event Art of Hosting .
My wife and I hosted a World Café in Mount Waddington on North Vancouver Island. Mount Waddington is an area that is transforming itself into a community that is really is trying to focus on taking care of everyone. Mount Waddington in the past was known for its logging fishing and mining. These industries all but disappeared. So the area in major pain and transition trying to recreate itself.
We hosted the event in a restaurant complete with Christmas Tree and Christmas Lights around the room. We were expecting between 20-40 people and 25 attended. The “Circle” as it is called where service agencies come together once a month to share what they are doing in there programs. The groups include government representatives from Social Services, Mental Health, local Hospitals and a number of NGO’s.
Our question was
Reflect on and speak to from the heart ♥
What is working for us and the people we serve in our beautiful community of Mount Waddington?
Participants felt the session was enriching, uplifting, energy restoring. It was fun to realize all of the positive things happening in the Mount Waddington Region.
It was a new way for the group to engage, as the group has been using the circle method for the past 9 years or so. The circle gets a little unwieldy when we have 30 + participants and sometimes 50 plus show up to an event.
I have recently moved to Victoria BC and will be looking to network with like minded people to continue asking questions that matter.
