Please share something about yourself, your work, and what draws you to the ALIA community.
I am so excited to be coming to the ALIA West meeting in May. I am fascinated by what it takes to be part of and lead transformations that change the "nature of things" when the status quo is just not working. I made the shift from Clinical Psychology practice about 8 years ago into the leadership development field and more recently into the Community Leadership domain. Some of my current questions and drivers are: what is the difference between leader dev and leadership dev that impacts a collective for a "movement" type shift. What is my real Work? What is possible here?
I am "into" lots of stuff...including long distance endurance triathlon or just off road running, road cycling, sailing, NZ stuff, my friends, mindfulness, coffee, good food....

Hi Lisa
Hope your get together went well this weekend.
I have been meaning to connect after the Mindful Leadership process you facilitated in October. Both Lorraine and I have really appreciated the two days. Good luck for the next series. You and Stephen are a great combo and I am sure you will go from strength to strength.
Cheers Gael

Lisa, check out my lastest blog :)

I trust that you will enjoy your new insights and learning this summer in Halifax with invited guest speakers and facilitators. I invite you to be open to learning an emerging field of the science of complexity, i.e., Human Systems Dynamics (HDS) and the Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS) in organic systems, i.e., organizational settings. The scholarship of Daniel Goleman and his research team in community life of humans describes it precisely as having the "science of results", to be adaptive in chaotic environments, no matter what. I am thanking you in advance for listening and being opened for giving yourself permission for new learning and new ways of being. I wish you the best ever learning at ALIA this summer. If you choose, please give my warmest regards to Glenda.

Now let's have beautiful exchanges/conversations and see our beautiful differences and notice our how beautifully we as individuals can place them in containers to make the difference that is the difference as we pursue three questions: What, so what, and now what? in multiple stories and realities. Subsequently, we would have the capacity to influence the difference that makes the difference and repeat the process, as it relates to organizational settings in chaotic environments, peace and conflict projects, substance abuse programs, programs with effective treatment for veterans suffering with symptoms of PTSD, marriages, youth at risk programs, leadership development programs, restoring lack of trust efforts, leading transformation projects, organizational culture change projects, integrating spirituality and leadership in organization development programs, transitional moments and non-verbal communication projects and/or case studies, and developing coherence in social intelligence in organizations projects and/or case studies. We look forward to the engagement and learning.

Warm regards,
Wali

Kia ora Lisa...

You could do a cafe with three groups of three...gets at the intimacy of the small group and allows people to shift around. With a small group you can do a few cafe rounds and debrief in a circle as well...I'll bet the group will go deep.

I am scheduled to be with Glenda Eoyang at the Human Systems Dynamics Institute (www.hsdinstitute.org) in MN for a certification program May 18 - 20. Due to my prior and competing commitments, I will not be able to join you and others at ALIA West. Again, enjoy your learning, travel safe and have FUN! Cheers, Wali

Hi Lisa, I was reading your questions on what draws you to ALIA and they caught my attention. I remember Dr. Ray Blanchard a psychologist and one of my master teacher in actual field work in Malaysia (organizational transformational), who left teaching at American universities, and a successful clinical practice to give himself permission to design the curriculum, and facilitate individual and organizational transformational with the leading adult learning organization in the world at that time. In the 80s the bankers of New Zealand hired Dr. Blanchard as a consultant to create outcomes that would create new eyes (lenses) for them collectively to see themselves as allies, rather than as competitors. The bankers' collective learning, choices, declarations, and committed actions built a strong movement that favored the bankers instead of government regulations, which benefited them as a "valued industry", i.e., "a valued-based team." We have witnessed for many years when at least agreed upon values are lived out, coupled with being a resonant leader culture in teams, organizations, and communities, respectively. Extraordinary results occur with ordinary people. I assert as a member of ALIA I am enjoying this global learning network which appears to be passionate about being on a journey of being and becoming authentic leaders. I am inviting you to join my page as a friend and I would like to join your page as a friend as well. I look forward to learning more about your interest, and ongoing conversations. Wali

Lisa,
I did not get back to you re your query as to what is my motivation to make a change in work.
Substantially it is because I had an original view when I commenced my current role that I would attempt to be in it for about 10 -12 yrs, which is similar to the tenure of our principals in one school. I'm in my 13th and we are doing a restructure of our service delivery which I support fully but have little energy for.
Using a sporting metaphor, I've always said that it is better not to play a season too long. Personally I think it is a skill to know when to move on and I think I have self knowledge and self awareness that has assisted me in my working life to act on this. Every other time there has been a job to go to, this time I have to create it. As you, no doubt, appreciate it is both challenging and daunting.
At another level it is also a good time as our youngest of three concludes tertiary study this year and, in reality, I will be free of depedents from next year and so can, without sounding selfish, do something for myself.
Many thanks for enquiring.
