Nico Koenig grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. Playing games in local recreation centres led to a curiosity in the power of sport and games for all. Spending a couple years working with the emerging sport for international development field in in Southern Africa furthered his interest in the dynamics of community organizing, popular education and community education. He returned to Nova Scotia to practice youth environmental education, before heading to Toronto to deepen his comprehension of learning within a community. Combining passions, he recently completed a Masters in Adult Education and Community Development at the University of Toronto.

While studying the past year, Nico has also been testing the waters of community organizing in Toronto, civic education in Chicago and researching innovative Folk High Schools in Sweden. Currently he is focusing on creating community learning programs, citizenship learning programmes, social media fun, and making plans to grow his first urban garden. Find him biking rain, shine or snow in Toronto.

Nico, I read your last comments with excitement...(and) I am not on campus at the Univ of Toronto. I believe that you will thrive and make invaluable contributions on and off campus, no doubt you will leave a positive mark.
Go for it!

Welcome Nico to ALIA Africa Group! Your experiential learning will be a huge asset in your graduate degree in Adult Education and Community Development at Univ of Toronto. I look forward to listening to more of your hands-on works and interest regarding Africa. Also, thanks for the website on the debates in Toronto. I invite you to be my friend on my page, and I would like to be your friend as well. Let's learn and grow together.

All the best,
Wali
