I think this is a very valid perspective and what it raises for me is that we are actually talking about a number of elements that bring this form of leadership together.
Leaders need to be able to motivate and inspire people to want to follow them. They need to be able to shift the business unit or organisational culture to one of co-operacy and inclusivity whereby they can engender shared visions and the value of sharing knowledge. This in itself is not an easy task.
'Collective meditation in action' as you put it Stephen then becomes something real and purposeful to those involved and brings forth 'intentionality'.
Systems thinking then becomes a quality tool to be ultilised where innovation, impact and unforseen consequences can be identified, giving rise to quality decion making, quality planning and bigger-picture outcomes.
These three areas of development in a leader;
- being able to facilitate and 'live' in collaborative working cultures
- building a culture that understands the usefulness of consciousness and
intentionallity in the thinking processes and gives time for staff to achieve this
- Ultilising a systems thinking tool with appreciative dialogue which enables diverse perspectives on any one issue
would create 'full-bodied leadership and a continous learning organisation.
